LAST DAY OF THE MONTH

Check for your expiring coupons. I have one that expires after today. It is a good one, too. A BOGO . I will be using it in a bit. I cannot let a free thing go.
I cannot say my couponing is working like the gals I am learning from. It seems my first trip to Walgreens did save me about $14 and I was happy. But this last trip I could not find hardly any of sale items. After researching,I have found that some couponers have no problem clearing a shelf. Walgreens has limits but some of these shoppers will do as many as 4 transactions to get as many deals as possible. I consider this a bit unethical. I am not the only one either. Some couponers with a louder voice than mine are really trying to stop this to keep companies from stopping coupons all together. This would be awful but I can see their point .
I told my husband it is a shame that after years of buying groceries and using an ocassional coupon, that I really could have saved us thousands of $ if I had really tried.
Live and learn.

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY

Memorial Day

As we stand here looking
At the flags upon these graves
Know these flags represent
A few of the true American brave

They fought for their Country
As man has through all of time
Except that these soldiers lying here
Fought for your country and mine

As we all are gathered here
To pay them our respect
Let's pass this word to others
It's what they would expect

I'm sure that they would do it
If it were me or you
To show we did not die in vein
But for the red, white and blue.

Let's pass on to our children
And to those who never knew
What these soldiers died for
It's the least we can do

Let's not forget their families
Great pain they had to bear
Losing a son, father or husband
They need to know we still care

No matter which war was fought
On the day that they died
I stand here looking at these flags
Filled with American pride.

So as the bugler plays out Taps
With its sweet and eerie sound
Pray for these soldiers lying here
In this sacred, hallowed ground.

Take home with you a sense of pride
You were here Memorial Day.
Celebrating the way Americans should
On this solemnest of days.

  • Our weather

This weather has been a bit whacky for a few weeks now. One day warm and sunny. Next stormy and threatening. It is a bit scary at times but I have always tried to stay calm and not work myself up when it is storming. But when the hail starts it is just an sound that could drive a person insane. I thought of all the poor creatures that cannot take cover and of all the tender plants, that I just planted, that will be broken up. But this is nature and it is getting very unpredictable. We are suppose to be on a few days of sunshine so I am feeling better already.  Posts will be more regular with the results of my first Walgreens with coupons.
This is a picture of Joplin,MO. about 45 miles from me. That lone building there in the background is a hospital.

    TIP

Cleaning windows and screens for summer? Small hole in screen will call to flies like sugar to ants. TIP: use a small piece of tape for a temporary fix.

Insects: I keep a small spray bottle with my cleaning supplies. This bottle is marked as soapy water. Dawn dish washing liquid. It is a degreaser.spray on for a aid to help dissolve stain. But my main use is for ants. Outside and in. I will use pesticide when I have to but for years now I have used this. It is environmentally safe and not harmful to animals. Kills fleas on contact if bathing a dog.

    Good article from TLC

    http://parentables.howstuffworks.com/dollars-sense/discounts-your-cell-phone-provider-doesnt-want-you-know-about.html#mkcpgn=fbtlc32

We are not huge talkers so we do the pre-paid. Averages out for us but not so for some...Depends on your cell phone needs.
We are cutting out the landline soon. That will be an xtra $50 we will save. We just pay for taxes and crap on the bill that makes no sense at all. Before we cut off the landline,we will make the decision on a phone contract or keep the prepaid. Let me know what you think.

    Energy Saving Tip

Frugal Living : Filling your Freezer, not your Fridge is an easy way to save electricity

    E-mail Print PDF
Pack your Freezer and Save MoneyDon't fill your fridge to capacity. Leave space and it will greatly improve the efficiency of the fridge, saving you electricity. The air needs to flow to cool everything properly. A sparse fridge will not only save electricity and your money, but it will also be easier for you to control your ‘food inventory.’ You will have less spoilage – no stinking surprises in the back of the fridge! But, do not confuse this with your freezer. The freezer operates differently. It runs more efficiently when it’s filled. The frozen foods help to maintain the low temperature. So, the rule for saving money with an efficient fridge and freezer is 70% full fridge and 100% full freezer. Save electricity and save money! Frugal living and saving electricity and water go hand in hand. These costs are rising so Thrift Culture Now is dedicated to providing daily thrifty tips and ways to save money.
